The government has fined Brazilian soccer star Neymar approximately $3.3 million for violating local environmental regulations. The violations were committed during the construction of his mansion near Rio de Janeiro. Multiple infractions have been found which include unauthorized construction of an artificial lake, river water diversion, earth movement, and vegetation suppression. Neymar’s father was also reported to have clashed with local authorities during the construction.

The responsible construction company, Genesis Ecossistemas, claims that the 10-day project cost Neymar $25,000 and covered 1,000 square meters. Neymar now faces the option to appeal the fine. But doing so could result in police prosecution, marking a significant departure from his usual sporting activities.

Neymar acquired a sprawling property valued at $10 million in Rio de Janeiro in 2017. It is situated in Portobello, Mangaratiba. This 3-acre property boasts rare features like a helipad and a private jetty, setting it apart from other celebrity retreats. Neymar’s house also boasts having a 15-foot yacht.

The property spans 21,000 square meters, amplifying the grandeur of Neymar’s real estate project. The property is currently facing ongoing controversies, including potential legal challenges and environmental fines. The fine is placed amounts to a staggering $3.3 million.

Mangaratiba City Hall released a statement that said, “The Department of the Environment, in addition to applying the fines considering the environmental damage caused, as well as the disrespect for the environmental laws in force, have notified the facts found to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Civil Police, the Environmental Protection Police Station, and other environmental control bodies.”
