The legend of Lionel Messi continues to grow as he claimed his second soccer FIFA Best Men’s Player award. Therefore, fans across the world rejoiced after his latest feat. As we all know, the organizers give the prize through a standard voting process.

While teammates hustle to vote for their teammates, Real Madrid’s David Alaba did have different intentions. Following Karim Benzema’s Ballon d’Or trophy, Alaba voted for the diminutive Argentinian instead of his French counterpart.

Fans took to Twitter to voice their opinions as they feared for the player’s future in a hilarious tweet. But everyone has different opinions, and it turned out to be a curious collection of tweets. It prompted fans to take to Twitter to have their tweet battles. 

Fans react to voting battle for Lionel Messi 

David Alaba gave his first vote to Messi, followed by Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe. To this, fans reacted, “Florentino and the Madrid board minutes before they terminate his contract.” The tweet also comprised a meme picture of Liverpool’s Thiago and Lucas Vazquez with a comment stating, “How do we tell him?” It became a hilarious meme as fans engaged in a humorous debate. 

 

 

The Real Madrid president followed high standards for his club since he took over in 2000. Since then, the club won 14 Champions League trophies as they dominated Europe. So, Alaba voting for Messi would have probably sent the wrong signals to the Madrid faithful.

Another tweet stated how “Alaba knows football.” After his stunning World Cup victory, not all but many fans have pointed out Messi as probably the GOAT of his generation. Likewise, one fan wanted Alaba to be returned to Austria while extending a contract of forward Mariano. The fan commented, “Send Alaba back to Austria. Extend Mariano.”

Messi has his last laugh!

As for the results, Lionel Messi won another FIFA Best Men’s Player of the Year award. Up until 2022, Benzema became the clear favorite to win the award. But, the 2022 Qatar World Cup changed the whole landscape of the competition. Therefore, each vote counts as Alaba voted for his favorite this year.

Considering Barcelona’s current form, Real Madrid would not afford to lose Alaba for a mere Twitter battle. He is one of their crucial players and completely epitomized Madrid’s Champions League run last year. Along with Eder Militao, he formed a formidable base in the defense. Fan reactions are hilarious, nonetheless.
