Throwing first pitches is a customary tradition in the MLB. Sports stars like Simone Biles and recently joined Inter Miami star Sergio Busquets threw their first pitches in various games. Right now, yet another MLS standout is making his way to throw his first pitch. LAFC’s Giorgio Chiellini prepares to throw his first pitch on Italian Heritage Night. Presently playing for the soccer team of Magic Johnson, the defender uses his talents to make a massive difference in holding the fort.

They won the MLS Cup in 2022, and Chiellini arrived to bolster the defense. The team is situated at the second spot in the Western Conference and strives to sustain its performance. However, one thing that probably might irk Johnson is the Italian soccer star’s first pitch. Not that he is actually throwing it, but the team who he will throw the pitch for!

Apart from co-owning LAFC, Magic Johnson is one of the shrewdest investors in America and co-owns the L.A. Dodgers and the L.A. Sparks of the WNBA. Enthusiastically involved with various sports teams, his star player, though, decided to throw his first pitch for the Los Angeles Angels, their close rivals. The Italian soccer star took to Twitter and broke the news of his latest activity.

Chiellini mentioned on Twitter“I’m heading to Angel Stadium on August 9th to celebrate Italian Heritage Night! Come watch me throw out the first pitch before the Angels game! You can get your tickets in the section dedicated to the Little Italy of Los Angeles Association. Ci vediamo allo stadio! See you at the stadium!” Not a refreshing way to impress your owner by going straight to your rivals. To put things into perspective, it is the same as the Italian defender playing for Juventus’ rivals, Fiorentina.

Giorgio Chiellini is in the middle of the fabled Freeway Series!

The Freeway series is the match between the Angels and the Dodgers. They first met in 1997 and faced each other around 144 times. Even though the Angels lead the series with a 73-71 record, the rivalry is pretty close.
