Saudi Arabia has splashed a lot of cash in this summer transfer window. The league managed to get some of the best young talents from Europe. The clubs offered staggering wages to lure players to sign for their club. Amid this chaos, stood a man who wanted neither money nor fame. Rejecting the riches of PSG and ditching Kylian Mbappe‘s team. The former Real Madrid player always had one destination in heart and he kept waiting until the last minute.

In a recent interview, the ex-PSG player talks about what unfolded and why he chose to leave all the money behind and follow his heart. The player has now completed his move to the 7x Europa League winners. His motive is to add more trophies and make their history more wild.

Sergio Ramos, the 4x Champions League winner, is back in Spain. The Sevilla youth academy product has once again signed for his childhood club. Sevilla is close to Sergio Ramos’s heart, and he waited until the very end for the move to happen. There was no surety of a deal and he has been a free agent for 65 days. But it was his heart and his hope, that made him wait until the 93rd minute.

In an interview, Sergio Ramos said, “I had the opportunity to stay in Paris, even for two years, but I didn’t see it. I have always been a person who has moved by impulse, by the heart, and I have never moved for money.”

He further adds, “That’s why it didn’t make sense for me to go to Arabia, nor to go to the MLS, nor to go anywhere else but here. That’s why I waited for the call until the last moment and it came in the 93rd minute, as it were.”

The 93rd minute is a reference to the equalizing goal against Atletico Madrid in the dying moments. The goal took the game into extra-time and the rest is history. There have been many offers from multiple clubs to sign Sergio Ramos. While he had the option to go to Saudi Arabia he also had offers from MLS and other Middle Eastern clubs.

Middle East and America miss out on Sergio Ramos

Sergio Ramos had the chance to get back with his former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. There were concrete offers from Al Nassr to make Ramos their marquee signing. The former World Champion though paid no heed to their offers. Earlier in a post, Ronaldo replied to Ramos’s Instagram post which fueled the rumors further but in the end Sevilla was his heart’s choice.

The Super Lig giants, Besiktas, were also rumored to be in a race to sign the ex-PSG defender. The deal that both Besiktas and Al Nassr offered was considerably huge. For instance, Al Nassr offered a two-year deal which would see him earn 15x more than Sevilla. Sevilla offered him $1.73 million for a one-year deal with the option to extend for another year.

There was also interest from Inter Miami but it’s clear that Sergio Ramos wanted to stay in Europe and with a move to his childhood club nothing could’ve been better.
