The rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi continues despite their age. Shortly following news that Messi would be winning the Ballon d’Or this year, which would be a record 8th win, opinions still remain divided. Surprisingly, Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, has outlined her brother’s achievements this year, suggesting that he should win the coveted award.

This comes shortly after Ronaldo’s mother Dolores posted a tribute to her son after he scored his 124th and 125th goals for Portugal. On this note, Ronaldo’s sister Katia took to Instagram to pen a long tribute to her brother.

Taking to her Instagram account, which has 1.3 million followers, Ronaldo’s sister Katia Aveiro reacted to the Ballon d’Or news surrounding Messi by penning a heartfelt post of praise for her brother. In the post, Aveiro said, Aged 38, he is the world’s top scorer in 2023. No way a 38-year-old athlete can play what he’s playing. And he always chasing the game. Amazing his ability.”

Further citing Ronaldo’s goal tally in 2023, Katia added, “Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 73 goals for Portugal since turning 30. That would make him the all-time top scorer for Germany, France, Italy, England, Spain and 187 other nations. Small thing, right???”

While mentioning Ronaldo’s roots and knowing his story the Al Nassr star’s sister added, “They know nothing of your history, your origin, and what material you are made of.” While finally concluding she wrote, “I AM PROUD OF YOUR STORY…( which hasn’t ended yet )…. Surreal.”

Ronaldo further increased his goal tally for Portugal against Slovakia captaining his country to a 3-2 win that effectively guaranteed Portugal’s qualification for Euro 2024. Furthermore, Ronaldo did it in emphatic fashion by scoring a brace.

Ronaldo is currently the 2nd highest scorer in the 2024 UEFA Euro qualifiers netting 7 goals in 6 matches for Portugal averaging 1.26 goals a game. It’s certain that Ronaldo will now look to take Portugal all the way at the Euros next year and fight to win the trophy for the 2nd time for his home nation.
