Welcome to Wrexham was undoubtedly one of the best decisions from Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Since the documentary revolving around the journey of the club’s takeover by the Hollywood owners was released, it has been a massive hit among viewers. However, the Welsh club’s fellow League Two rival ex-star Antoni Sarcevic isn’t impressed, slamming the series as being about ‘everything around’ rather than just soccer.

The transfer-bound Stockport County midfielder was invited to the ‘I Had Trials Once’ podcast hosted by Gareth Seddon and Jordan Hulme. During the lengthy discussion, the topic of Wrexham came up when Sarcevic was asked if he watched the club’s documentary. While insisting that he didn’t see the latest release, the 32-year-old claimed to have watched the early ones. But that didn’t impress him much. “They weren’t really like on football, was it? It was like, a bit boring.”

While both hosts denied watching a single episode of Welcome to Wrexham, Sarcevic expected it to be similar to other soccer-centric documentaries. Salford City’s ‘Class of 92’ as well as Amazon Prime’s ‘All or Nothing’ were brought to light by the panel. Revealing how it wasn’t up to his expectations, Sarcevic added, “I just thought it was solely going to be on football but it’s like everything around [Other than football].”

Notably, Sarcevic helped Stockport to lift League Two as Wrexham finished behind them. While both sides are going up to League One, the former Bolton player is staying back in the fourth tier, signing for Bradford as a free agent. Either way, the English midfielder isn’t impressed by Reynolds and Co.’s efforts in the documentary. But it doesn’t seem to be the case for others, especially after knowing it is renewed for a fourth season!

Exceeding ‘all expectations,’ Welcome to Wrexham renewed for Season 4

The overwhelming response to the first two seasons of Welcome to Wrexham prompted the release of the third season earlier this month. However, as the documentary continues to top the charts, Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment, seems more than pleased with the show’s reception and decided to renew it for a fourth season.

FX also praised the club owners’ vision for the Welsh club. Mr. Grad specifically lauded the historic season for the Red Dragons, stating, “Wrexham AFC has exceeded all expectations on the pitch and with fans, scoring back-to-back promotions under the leadership of Rob and Ryan and rising to compete in League One next season.”

Certainly, Welcome to Wrexham turned out to be a brilliant move by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. But it’s curious how Antoni Sarcevic found it boring. We would like to know your views in the comments.
