FPL Players to Watch in 2024: Kevin De Bruyne, Ivan Toney & More

The Premier League is on a mini-break, and so is the FPL. The managers are already scratching their heads about not scoring off the pitch. However, the season from here looks to be a roller coaster ride for the FPL managers. With 18 game weeks to be played in less than five months, the battle boils up to be super-hot. And leading up to it, let’s look at the top 5 players who are making a comeback and can have a drastic influence on the teams.

There are already two unplayed fixtures in the league, which will lead to at least one double-game week. The possibility of three blank game weeks is expected to add more fixtures to the double-game weeks. Hence, we’re looking at players who look to make the most impactful comeback in the FPL.

Top FPL players to watch out for in 2024

1. Kevin De Bruyne (midfielder), Manchester City, £10.2:

One of the finest playmakers in, if not the world, at least the Premier League. His addition can earn you points for both goals and playmaking. However, the Belgian is expected to take time to get back to form.

  • Reason for absence: hamstring injury
  • Expected return: back on December 30, 2023
  • Can be substituted for Raheem Sterling, who has not been in form for the last few months. Sterling hasn’t scored in the past seven games of the league for the Blues.
  • Recent Stats: For the 2022–23 season, De Bruyne was the highest assister and one of the primary contributors to Erling Haaland’s goals. Apart from his seven goals, the player provided 18 assists last season, gaining a total FPL score of 183 points last year.

2. Ivan Toney (striker) Brentford £7.9:

The player has established himself as one of the more reliable strikers in the Premier League. The player scored 12 goals after Brentford’s return to the Premier League, making five assists.

  • Reason for absence: Suspended
  • Expected return: January 17, 2024
  • Can be substituted for: Darwin Nunez. Nunez has been very inconsistent since he arrived at Liverpool. The player is ranked first for missing the most big chances (18). The player scored five goals and eight assists, but the team can become vulnerable even with the risk of his selection in the eleven.
  • Recent stats: The player scored 20 goals and provided four assists, scoring 182 points.

3. Christopher Nkunku (midfielder) Chelsea £7.4:

Nkunku is relatively new to the Premier League. Before signing for Chelsea, he played a pivotal role in RB Leipzig’s attack. The player was last year’s top scorer in the Bundesliga. With speed, power, and skill, Nkunku can score points in FPL. The French player has already opened his account for Chelsea.

  • Reason for absence: knee injury
  • Expected return: Returned on December 16, 2023
  • Can be substituted for: Kaoru Mitoma. The highly talented Japanese player seems to be a gentle competitor in FPL. The star has not scored in the last fourteen games and provided just two assists.
  • Recent Stats: Golden Boot winner in the Bundesliga with 16 goals in 26 games and provided six assists.

4. James Maddison (Midfielder) Tottenham Hotspur £7.8:

An innovative and fearless midfielder, Madison is known for his exquisite passes, sharp free kicks, decent speed, and dribbling. The star played a critical role in Ange Postecoglou’s initial success in the season. Things have turned around, but Madison can provide significant goals and assists for the Spurs and the FPL managers.

  • Reason for absence: ankle injury
  • Expected return: January 31st, 2024
  • Can be substituted for: Dominik Szoboszlai. The Liverpool midfielder has added value on the pitch without a doubt. But he has just scored two goals and provided four assists throughout. scored his last goal six games ago in the league.
  • Recent stats: 3 goals and 6 assists were provided this season.

5. Jurien Timber (defender) Arsenal £4.6:

Known to be a strong and composed defender, the Dutch center-back also attacks when needed. Jurrien Timber’s anticipation to intercept the ball is superior to many others.

  • Reason for absence: ACL injury
  • Expected return: late February or March
  • Can be substituted for: Oleksandr Zinchenko. The Arsenal right-back has not been having the greatest of times. Having scored just one goal and an assist, the player can sometimes lose the ball to the opponent, leading to heavy outcomes.
  • Recent stats: 11 clean sheets in the Eredivisie last season. Provided 2 goals and 2 assists.
