We regret to announce the passing of the esteemed Portuguese football icon and accomplished manager, Artur Jorge. The world of soccer is replete with illustrious players whose managerial careers failed to match their playing prowess. However, it was not the case for the Portuguese icon, who achieved unparalleled success globally, spanning Europe to Saudi Arabia.

Artur Jorge’s impressive 14-year professional career materialized with a premature tenure at Porto. During his tenure at Benfica, he etched an indelible mark—participating in 130 matches and delivering an astounding 105 goals. His prowess saw him venture into America in 1977, where he joined NASL Rochester Lancers during the late Franz Beckenbauer’s reign with the New York Cosmos. Nonetheless, it was his subsequent expertise as a coach that solidified his legendary status within soccer circles.

Following an insightful study period in Leipzig, Jorge led numerous Portuguese clubs to succeed. This included guiding Porto to glory by securing the European Championship title in 1987, where they defeated the favored Bayern Munich in the final. This remarkable triumph earned him the nickname ‘Rei Artur’ or ‘King Arthur’. Moreover, he enjoyed further accolades as manager of PSG during the early nineties when he secured the prized title of French Champion for them in 1994.
