The transformative influence of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney on Wrexham is indisputable. Since assuming ownership of the Red Dragons, the Hollywood duo has orchestrated the Welsh club to a remarkable turnaround. While the narrative of their takeover is widely known, promotion hero Ben Foster has recently unveiled a startling revelation. Before their joint venture, McElhenney had ‘never even spoken’ to Reynolds.

The eyebrow-raising revelation was made in the latest podcast with talkSPORT. Foster was asked to discuss his previous owners and he candidly made some revelations. Host Andy Goldstein questioned the retired goalkeeper if both Reynolds and McElhenney were friends before owning Wrexham, to which Foster replied, “No, they’re not. They didn’t even know each other. Before they started the Wrexham thing, he [Rob] had never even spoken to him [Ryan].” Foster then revealed how the two started the project.

“He [Rob] just sort of reached out and said, ‘I’m going to do this crazy thing, do you want to be part of it?’ And he [Ryan] was like, ‘Yeah ok, cool,'” added the former Watford goalkeeper. Many might have assumed that two Hollywood actors took their friendship to the next level by owning a soccer club. However, it’s the reverse; Reynolds and McElhenney’s bond grew after they invested their millions in Wrexham. Rest, as everyone knows, is history, with the Dragons ending their 15-year exile from the EFL. Notably, Foster played a crucial role as he came out of retirement to lead Phil Parkinson and Co. to the promotion. However, Reynolds wanted Foster to stay on TV 24/7!

Wrexham boss Ryan Reynolds never understood how Ben Foster became a professional athlete

Earlier, the Deadpool star gave his insights on working alongside Ben Foster on ‘Yours Mine Away Podcast,’ hosted by Wrexham’s current goalkeeper Mark Howard. While expressing his love for the former West Bromwich star, the Canadian-born actor labeled Foster as a ‘maniac‘ and an ‘absolute beast.’ Then he questioned how the keeper managed to tread a path as a goalkeeper.

“I don’t understand how he ended up a professional athlete, though. He just seems like he should only be on TV 24/7. Like I’m convinced he sleeps in a full sprint with his eyes wide open,” added Reynolds hilariously. Nevertheless, it’s good that Foster made his career choice as a goalkeeper, as things eventually panned out well for him as well as Wrexham.
