Shakira was depressed after losing her voice

Since the messy breakup, 2017 was seemingly an extremely rough year for Shakira. The Colombian singer had to postpone her ever-famous El Dorado world tour after suffering from a vocal cord hemorrhage in her right vocal cord. Several years later, she opened up about her major injury. She described that experience as “unbearable”.

She told the Guardian, “It was my identity. So, when I couldn’t sing, that was unbearable. There were times I couldn’t even get out of bed. I was so depressed”. Her children, Milan and Sasha, were too young to read and write. She had to communicate with them through sign language. Shakira continued, “I was not positive. I was so pessimistic. I was a bitter person to be around”.

The Grammy Award winner revealed that she needed surgery. However, she wasn’t ready to take that risk at all. She ignored the doctor’s advice and tried spiritual methods to heal herself. She even tried holy water from the Lourdes, in France. Luckily, her voice came back after a few months.

Shortly after the argument, Shakira realized that she had lost her voice completely. After a medical diagnosis, she got to know that she suffered a hemorrhage in her right vocal cord. After regaining her voice with an operation, she called that “some kind of religious experience”. During her El Dorado tour, she considered every night on stage as a gift.
