Former Barcelona star Dani Alves has found some relief after over three hundred days of imprisonment. The court handling his assault case has finally released the official date for the trials. Alves was accused of assault earlier this year, with the player being detained by the Spanish authorities in January.

Earlier this year, the court had claimed Alves’ case had enough evidence against the player to run the trial. The ex-Barcelona star has been behind bars since the 20th of January. He has agreed to the trial with the player hoping to prove his innocence.

According to a prior report from Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo Ester García, the lawyer representing the victim has demanded $161,000 in compensation against the player. The victim has also appealed for nine years in prison and five years of supervised release for Alves.

Based on the statements released by his lawyers, Alves has denied any wrongdoings while claiming that what happened between him and the accuser was consensual. The player is also said to be offended by the narrative spun against him and is more than willing to prove his innocence during the legal trial.

The player has currently been denied bail by the local authorities, deeming him a flight risk. With the trial set to take place in the first week of February, Alves will be hoping to present his best case to walk out as a free man. However, if the player is found guilty, he might face up to ten to twelve years behind bars.
