The world has seen the tough side of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but who is the man behind the persona? The former Sweden international was always a competitor on the field, but, in his personal life, he encountered quite a few challenges. Recently, he shed light on his $1000 childhood struggle with his mother in an emotional revelation.

It has been a few months since the former AC Milan forward retired from professional soccer. However, he never ceases to speak out and be a passionate voice among soccer stars.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic once had a complicated family life. He was a fighter on the pitch, mirroring his childhood when he fought hard and won. The Swede revealed that his mother was the main reason he and his four siblings grew up so strong. Coming from an environment of discomfort, the LA Galaxy icon said that the whole family used to make do with just $1,000 dollars.

Sustaining on the hard work of his mother during his younger days, he said, “She was a cleaner. She brought home probably, I don’t know in pounds, like, let’s say, 1000 euro (close to a 1000 dollars) and to feed all these five children. And she was working from seven to four, so we went to school.” So we went to school, I have older sisters, I had a older brother”.

Having separated from the father two years after Zlatan’s birth, his mother had to take care of the 2-year-old and his four siblings. He also claimed that she did not get any support from his older brother, who was closer to his father.

Even though the former Swedish international had a tough time in his childhood, he did not lose respect and still holds high regard for his parents, specifically the bond he shares with his mother.

Zlatan is closer to his mother than his father

With all the initial hardships in family and financial life, Zlatan felt it was a common problem in their region. Being a Balkan from former Yugoslavia, his parents migrated to Sweden. Zlatan revealed he was closer to his mother but still had a space in his heart for his father. The top scorer for Sweden also said that his father would not hit him. He said, “He would not hit me, my mother would hit me. She was the one hitting not my father”. The 42-year-old was, nevertheless, treated strictly if he did not go to school.

Zlatan provides the best for both his parents, as he feels everyone should have a good life. With an enigmatic aura on and off the field, the Swedish lethal forward has influenced many people. His acrobatic goals and winning mentality have entertained fans over the years. But he has now retired and reflected on his childhood with cheer, which made him the Zlatan Ibrahimovic we all know.
