English Premier League side Leeds United brought in a gem of a player in Weston McKennie. Although his stint at Juventus didn’t reach the peak of his potential, Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch sealed a loan deal for the USMNT midfielder. With fans clamoring for a midfield general, their dreams have come true. However, former American soccer player Alexi Lalas described the signing as “too good for Leeds.”
Currently languishing in 15th, just one point above the drop zone, McKennie’s signing would be a welcome change. Lalas described how fans are eager for their latest signing to perform. He also stressed how McKennie can re-ignite the team from dropping to the second division, proving to be an astute piece of business from Marsch.

Former American soccer player takes a dig at Leeds United
During the Alexi Lalas’ State of the Union Podcast, he stated, “This is kind of the best possible scenario, but it doesn’t change the fact that I think that Weston McKennie is too good for Leeds. You know Leeds fans can scream and yell all they want. But that’s just the reality.”
Leeds United is one of the oldest clubs in England and has a passionate fan base. After Marcelo Bielsa took them to the Premier League, the club downgraded a bit in terms of performance. But, American coach Jesse Marsch revitalized the club with his timely pressing, verticality, and quick transition play to score goals. In addition, he brought players like Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams (American soccer players) to the party. It creates an intriguing prospect for American fans to follow their homeland superstars.

“I Sh** Myself”: Weston McKennie Makes an Embarrassing Confession to Juventus Teammate
As for McKennie, the team would hopefully become aggressive under his playing style. Lalas was quick to point out deep-rooted ambitions of the club would probably change with this marquee moment, and McKennie has to play a significant role in that. He continued, “Who knows? Maybe Weston becomes the hero and takes them to that promised land, which is what is hopefully being set up here.”
What does Weston McKennie bring to the table?
After his arrival, McKennie mentioned, “Hopefully, I can bring good energy, fresh energy, some goals, defensive work, and everything.” It would probably be what the Premier League club needs in the games ahead. Although attacking phases of play are not an issue, Leeds has conceded 33 goals this season. Probably this can be the reason they signed Weston.

In the current season for Juventus, he made 15 appearances. Per 90 mins, he makes 1.28% tackles, 0.94 interceptions, and averages 1.11 clearances. Probably it is tailor-made for both the player and the club to mop up their defensive fragilities. Weston McKennie looks like a signing for the ages, and if he keeps them out of relegation, Leeds United can buy him permanently at the end of the season for $43 million.
All roads lead to success for both the club and the player. Do you think Weston McKennie can keep Leeds United up?
