Tyler Adams vainly scrapped the bottom of the barrel to find something good about USMNT’s Copa America campaign. According to Adams, even the build-up to the tournament was off-kilter. Speaking of USMNT’s failure to get the knockouts in the Copa America, Adams hopes his teammates will take responsibility and strive for the upcoming World Cup, hosted by the US. The Bournemouth midfielder was not just unhappy about USMNT’s forgetful run at the Copa America. But, how the CONMEBOL and CONCACAF organized the Copa America in the US left him puzzled.
This year’s Copa America arguably presented us with more chaos than soccer action. The Copa was a clear illustration of event organizing gone wrong, with a multitude of issues ranging from dreadful pitch conditions to fights breaking out between players and fans, even resulting in stadium invasions.
Adams discussed the same during his appearance on the Men in Blazers podcast, “I think that the organization obviously of the tournament wasn’t brilliant. It was no World Cup by any means. But I think it comes down to you know each Federation in each organization running things differently,” said Adams.

While he did not speak about the chaos caused by fans during the Copa, he lamented the poor pitch conditions of most stadiums that hosted these games. “From a field’s perspective, I think it was it was always going to be difficult to have good fields playing in football stadiums. Especially when they’ve only been laid a couple of weeks before the tournament,” Adams added.
Meanwhile, the Bournemouth midfielder commended the MLS’ growth, insisting the Copa organizers should have held games at MLS stadiums.

Thanks to their staggering seating capacity, Copa America’s most important games were played in NFL stadiums. But most of these pitches use injury-prone turfs instead of natural grass. To fix the injury woe, the organizers laid grass, in an untimely fashion, forcing the arrangement to come off and dampen the surfaces.
Tyler Adams believes, hosting games on MLS stadiums was the solution. “I think it was a perfect opportunity in Copa America to have you know these games to be played in soccer-specific stadiums. And kind of showcase what MLS has grown,” the Bournemouth star said.
