It’s no secret that Wrexham AFC has been on the rise. After their triumphant victory in the National League, the Welsh side is determined to continue their winning ways. With their promotion to EFL League Two, the ultimate goal is to reach the Premier League. To achieve this, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson is already in the squad-building process and willing to wait if it means signing the right players.

What sets Parkinson apart from other managers is his approach to signing players. He’s not interested in building the numbers by making numerous signings. Rather, his primary focus is on a few key players that he believes can improve the squad significantly and take them to a higher level. The waiting game might not be the most popular strategy, but Parkinson believes it’s the best approach for his team.

In a recent interview with The Leader, Parkinson revealed, “We have spoken to a lot of players, and we are in discussions with clubs.” He also acknowledged that the current squad is capable enough. The Englishman believes, “To get better players than the ones we have already got is really tough. We are best off waiting for the players we really want, knowing that the squad is strong as it stands.”

However, Parkinson aims to ensure that the new signings will make a difference in the team’s overall performance. Also, he is ready to go all out to bring them to the squad. He also understands that, with the transfer market presently open, signings and conversations to bring in such players take time. Parkinson assured, “If two or three players become available which we want and which we feel will really improve the squad, then, of course, we will go all out to get them. We have targeted the ones we want and we are in discussions with those clubs, but at this time of the year, things take time for many different reasons.”

As the new season approaches, Parkinson is confident in the team’s ability to succeed. The goal is not just to maintain their position in League Two, but to win the title as well. With six weeks to go until the start of League Two, Parkinson is taking a steady approach to squad building. And according to recent reports, Wrexham already has their first target signing, whose father doesn’t have a great history with Wrexham fans.

Wrexham looking to make a surprising signing

His extensive experience in the Championship, two levels above League Two in the English soccer hierarchy, could make a significant difference for Wrexham’s midfield. However, little-known facts about his family background may come as a surprise to many. Carl Power, Max’s father, was one of 32 individuals arrested and imprisoned for provoking violence among Birkenhead United AFC and Wrexham AFC fans after a match back in September 2003.
