Wrexham earning promotion is one for the history books. Following a 15-year exile, the Welsh side finally climbed the English soccer pyramid. However, in an unusual turn of events, co-owner Ryan Reynolds has raised questions about the unexpected journey into professional soccer of Ben Foster, who was responsible for the team’s promotion, suggesting that the veteran goalkeeper ‘should only be on TV 24/7’.

This candid declaration was made in ‘Yours Mine Away Podcast,’ hosted by the current Wrexham goalkeeper Mark Howard. Reynolds, being the guest for episode 057 of a ‘pure goalkeeping show,’ was asked to talk about all the Red Dragons goalkeepers he has worked with. When inquired about Foster, he began, “Love him. Oh my God, what a maniac, too. Just an absolute beast. I don’t understand how he ended up a professional athlete though. He just seems like he should only be on TV 24/7. Like I’m convinced he sleeps in a full sprint with his eyes wide open.”

As Howard agreed to his club’s owner’s remarks, Reynolds expressed his amazement at Foster documenting all matches via his GoPro. “His little goalkeeping GoPro camera is everywhere. He’s wearing them and it’s crazy, so brazen, too. I suppose it’s a bit of a life lesson in being fearless in failure,” said the Deadpool star. Likewise, the Canadian-born actor appreciated Foster for documenting more losses than the team’s victory. 

Notably, the former Watford keeper used to upload this POV-based footage on his renowned YouTube channel, ‘Ben Foster-The Cycling GK,’ which has over 1.47 million subscribers. Either way, Reynolds must be missing the promotion hero who helped him get the club across the line.

Ben Foster was instrumental in ensuring Wrexham’s promotion to League Two after coming out of retirement to support the team during their National League campaign. With his three clean sheets in his eight league games, the forty-year-old contributed majorly and ended Wrexham’s fifteen-year Football League exile. However, Foster’s second season with Wrexham in League Two did not go well.

He faced tribulations after making just four appearances, giving up 13 goals and failing to keep a clean sheet. It was evident that his once-acute sense of diving had faded. In light of this, and to avoid burdening the club, the former Manchester United player announced his retirement from professional football on August 21. Nevertheless, he has permanently etched his name in the hearts of Wrexham fans.
