Sergio Ramos is one of the best defenders to grace the sport. Yet, his ability on the pitch has often been overlooked for his controversies, which is a long list in itself. The latest incident featured the Sevilla defender involved in an altercation with a fan, following a loss. The episode has divided opinion, but as per one prominent pundit, the Spaniard’s action, which was called ‘absolutely fantastic’, didn’t seem appropriate for another pundit who sided with fans, who were simply frustrated.

In the post-match interview following Sevilla’s loss, the veteran defender didn’t seem impressed when a fan shouted at him. Sergio Ramos reacted angrily and told him to have a little respect and shut up. This has been a major talking point in the soccer media ever since.

Steve Nicol of ESPN FC doesn’t understand why Sergio Ramos ought to have a problem with the fans. He explained, “They’re watching the team get beat game after game after game, poor performances. So what do you expect them to do? They’re going to voice the frustration” Considering that Sevilla currently sits 16th in the table with 9 losses, Nicol pushed his point forward regarding the attitude of the fans. He further suggested that fan support is a double-edged sword.

The Sevilla captain’s words were appreciated by Frank Lebouef. He condemned the fan’s action, who did not show respect to the veteran defender. He explained, “I think what Sergio did is absolutely fantastic because, yes, you have the right to say shut up to somebody. But when you come back to the camera and you say ‘Well you know it’s not for them it’s already for us and then they’re going to come with us.'”
