Wrexham AFC has largely welcomed great news since it began its EFL League One campaign after 18 years. The Red Dragons haven’t lost once in three games, winning two and drawing one. Fueling this stellar run, Wrexham’s most lethal striker, Paul Mullin, returned to the field after recovering from a spinal cord surgery. That too during Wrexham’s 3-0 win against Reading on Saturday.

However, the Welsh club’s coach Phil Parkinson knows that Mullin is still in no place to take the field regularly. Parkinson stresses that a tough week’s training could ensure Mullin’s fitness for the upcoming games.

Now that Paul Mullin is briefly back, the Wrexham camp’s challenge is to get him game-ready for the remainder of the season. And that was the talking point in Parkinson’s recent interview. “It was important to get Paul a little bit of game-time. Obviously, it was never going to be more than that,” said Phil Parkinson, as compiled by The Wrexham Insider.

He hinted that Mullin’s recovery and fitness have been progressing finely. But, he added that the Litherland-born striker has a long road ahead. “It gives us another week now with Paul, a tough week with him on the training ground, and see if he can go that step closer to being involved again next week,” Parkinson added, revealing Wrexham’s immediate plan for Paul Mullin.

Anyhow, Parkinson is also optimistic about Mullin’ rehabilitation progress, while he also sounded concerned about the striker missing out on the pre-season.

“Paul missed a lot of pre-season but now we have got a free week again to work with him,” said Parkinson, iterating that the ‘tough week’ will be immensely crucial for Mullin’s recovery. Wrexham next plays Peterborough on the road next Saturday. If the aforementioned tough week goes well, the former Liverpool academy star could once again feature for Wrexham like everybody wants. Having scored 100 goals for the Dragons so far, it won’t be beyond the ace striker to hit the net as well. That can anyhow strengthen his comeback as well.
