La Liga champions Atletico Madrid have had some of the worst luck in the Champions League. Last decade, they managed to reach two UCL finals but lost both of them to City rivals, Real Madrid. This time around, they want things to be a lot different.

Atletico is paired up against a team who knows a thing or two about losing the UCL final, Manchester City. At the moment, City is one of the best teams on the planet and can beat anyone on their day. They are also the heavy favorites in this quarter-final match-up.

However, the La Liga club aren’t here to play around, and if the last season taught Man City anything, it would be to never underestimate your opponents.

Atletico’s club president shows his confidence in his team

Atletico Madrid club president Enrique Cerezo is of the same opinion. The Spaniard revealed that the club will give it their all to try and win the tie, and reach the semi-finals of the tournament. Moreover, he also added that they are one of the remaining eight teams in the competition, and can win it all.

The sensations are the same as when we came the last time. We came to try to win and to be in the semifinals. We are among the top eight and a champion has to come out, why not be us,” Cerezo said.

However, Cerezo also added that beating Manchester City will be a huge accomplishment and make for a great season for the club. The Spaniard said that all games always start in the balance and teams want a good result in the first leg.
