The USMNT are one of the best football teams in the world, ranked at number 11. Hence, there were expected to walk through their qualifying group for the World Cup.
However, things haven’t gone smoothly at all. The USMNT lost to Canada in their CONCACAF world cup qualifying match by a score of 2-0, and are in danger of not qualifying for the world cup in the end. Canada is currently sitting on the top of the table, four points ahead of the USMNT, and look invincible right now.

Will the USMNT be in Qatar?
As things stand, the USMNT are going to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar as the top three teams from CONCACAF will go through. The USA is sitting in 2nd place on the table with 18 points, the same as Mexico, with the Americans getting the edge because of their superior goal difference.
Panama is sitting in fourth place with 17 points, and they are the only team that could displace the USA from their spot. Costa Rica is in fifth with 13 points, and will not be going to the World Cup in 2022 barring a miracle. Every nation has four matches remaining, and the USMNT are in control.
Their next match is against Honduras, who are sitting at the bottom of the table with three points after ten games. The USMNT should be the heavy favorites in this match-up and winning another game would help their prospects.

The USMNT tried Gyasi Zardes as their number nine, but the move didn’t work out. He couldn’t do much in the match and only had 29 touches on the ball in total. It’ll be interesting to see if they can fix this problem in the near future.
