Manchester United sacked their manager after three years, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, after a terrible run of form in the Premier League. Moreover, they appointed German manager Ralf Rangnick on an interim basis for six months, with a consulting clause that lasts for two years. Interestingly, Rangnick had been offered the Chelsea job a while ago as well.

The London club was struggling under Frank Lampard and had to fire their former player after a lot of bad results in the league. They appointed former PSG manager Thomas Tuchel, and won the UEFA Champions League five months later.

Thomas Tuchel laughs at Ralf Rangnick’s comments.

Rangnick talked about Chelsea’s approach in his first press conference for Manchester United. He revealed that Chelsea also offered him the interim role in February, but there was no consulting clause, and hence he didn’t take up the job.

However, there was an issue with the dates here, as Tuchel was already appointed during the middle of January. A reporter told Tuchel about this slip up from Rangnick and the Blues manager saw the funny side of it.

Arthur Masuaku scored a flukish winner in the 87th minute, which seemed like a cross gone wrong. Regardless, Chelsea dropped to second place because of their slip-up and Liverpool now leads the Premier League.

However, the current champions Manchester City have a game in hand and can go to first place if they win that match. That would drop Tuchel’s Blues to third place in this intensely competitive title race. It’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top at the end of the season.
