There are no normal days in the Premier League, as anything can happen in any match. While Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Chelsea does not qualify as a huge upset, it was still a shock given Chelsea’s recent form. Thomas Tuchel’s men have been through it all this season.

Chelsea were flying high before the international break, but it all went downhill afterward. A 4-1 loss to Brentford was followed by a 3-1 loss against Real Madrid in the Champions League. The Blues almost mounted a memorable comeback when they went up by 3-0 at the Bernabeu, but Madrid scored two goals to kill the tie.

It looked like Chelsea were on the right path when they beat Crystal Palace in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, but the loss against Arsenal brought everything back to square one.

Thomas Tuchel explains why Chelsea lost against Arsenal

Tuchel wasn’t happy with the result at all, as it was another horrible showing from the Chelsea defense. Arsenal were almost given a free path towards the goal, and the German manager gave his reasons for the defeat. Surprisingly, Tuchel blamed the pitch and called it too difficult to play on.

To say the pitch is difficult to play here, it maybe sounds like an excuse, but it is a very, very difficult pitch that we have here. It’s not in our favour. The ball bounces very awkwardly in front of Andreas when he wants to play this ball,” Tuchel said.

Tuchel laments Chelsea’s mistakes in the game

The German manager revealed that his team made similar mistakes in their Champions League tie against Madrid. Chelsea conceded 5 goals in the two-legged tie, and it ended up being vital as they lost the entire match by a margin of one goal.

But still, we had the same mistake against Real Madrid that cost us the next round of the Champions League, and this one cost us the next match,” he added.
