Chelsea are one of the biggest attacking juggernauts this season. After signing Romelu Lukaku, ‘the Blues’ have a plethora of quality attacking talent. One of the young offensive weapons for Thomas Tuchel has been American winger Christian Pulisic.

Pulisic has had an impressive time under Tuchel. Often chipping in with goals and assists, the American has stayed productive. The 22-year-old even found himself in the scoreboard over the weekend as Chelsea beat a Crystal Palace side comfortably with a 3-0 scoreline.

Christian Pulisic hopes for a quick recovery from COVID-19

While Pulisic surely impressed over the weekend, he looked like a sure starter for Chelsea’s London derby against Arsenal. But the 22-year-old has unfortunately been ruled for the derby.

Diagnosed with COVID-19, the American is now self-isolating. Despite the disappointing news, the 22-year-old had some encouraging updates for his fans. The American took to Instagram and informed that he indeed was fully vaccinated and did not have a single symptom as well.

This is certainly encouraging news for ‘the Blues.’ Pulisic has become one of the mainstay in Chelsea’s rotation and is a key piece in the European champions’ offense. Given that he is not experiencing any symptoms as of now, the path to recovery hopefully won’t take a long time. The COVID-19 pandemic has surely been one of the biggest talking points in the Premier League lately. Pulisic isn’t the only player affected by the virus.

Arsenal have also been hard hit by the pandemic recently with two of their biggest names in Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette missing the season opener due to positive COVID tests. This is surely a serious cause of concern and the Premier might have to take some tough decisions accordingly.

What does Pulisic’s absence mean for Chelsea?

While Pulisic is surely a big miss, there is no doubting the depth the Londoners have. With the American missing, there is a huge possibility of new signing Romelu Lukaku featuring for the Blues.

Lukaku, who got his big money move this summer, is a bona-fide goalscorer. Expect to see a 4-3-1-2 system featuring a front three of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku as the front three.

While Chelsea had one of the sturdiest defenses last season, they were in dire need of a goal-scoring machine. Despite Timo Werner’s arrival last season, the German couldn’t step up as the go-to scorer for the Chelsea.

With Werner now shifting to a wider position, Chelsea can easily slot in a attacking beast like Lukaku. Given the shaky start Arsenal had in their season opener, ‘the Blues’ surely are heavy favorites in the matchup. Who do you think will win this London derby?
