Chelsea center-back Antonio Rudiger has been one of the best players in his position for two years now. The arrival of Thomas Tuchel has completely revitalized his career, and the German international has never looked better than he does now.

However, his contract with Chelsea is set to expire in three months’ time, and it doesn’t look like he’ll sign an extension. Moreover, because of the sanctions that have been placed on the club, Chelsea cannot give Rudiger a new deal until they get a new owner.

Antonio Rudiger and his future club

Popular journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on the issue and revealed the details. Rudiger is prepared to leave Chelsea on a free transfer, as talks of a new contract had broken down several months ago. The German international has been happy at the club under Thomas Tuchel, but his future does not belong at the club.

Now that his contract is expiring, clubs would be able to sign the defender for free. The prospect of signing a player of that caliber for no money at all is one that no big club wants to ignore. As a result, Real Madrid and Manchester United are both trying to sign him, but according to Romano, there’s a clear favorite.

Real Madrid is currently leading the race for the defender’s signature, and they are getting closer to agreeing on terms with Rudiger. Madrid is also doing much better as a club, reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League after knocking out Chelsea, while United won’t get to play in the competition next season.
