Christian Eriksen’s tragic cardiac arrest at the Euro 2020 was one of the most heartbreaking stories from Euro 2020. Football fans watched holding their breath as doctors tried help Eriksen after his tragic collapse.

A medical complication of this magnitude would certainly have been fatal if the doctors hadn’t intervened. Additionally, Denmark’s captain and AC Milan centre-back Simon Kjaer played a huge role as well.

Kjaer was the first to put Christian on his side and made sure that he did not swallow his own tongue. However, the Dane didn’t stop there and went to comfort Eriksen’s wife when she was crying on the pitch. He acted like a true captain during the entire ordeal and even led the Denmark players to form a wall around the unconscious Eriksen, as the doctors tended to him.

As a result, UEFA will now recognise the team of doctors and Kjaer and award them for their actions. The doctors, Mogens Kreutzfeldt, Frederik Flensted, Anders Boesen, Peder Ersgaard, Jens Kleinefeld, Valentin Velikov, Morten Skjoldager, and Morten Boesen will receive the prestigious UEFA President’s award along with Kjaer.

The doctors surely saved Eriksen’s life, and even if the Inter Milan star might not play again, he’ll always be remembered in the sport.
