How Does Gerard Pique Feel About Fans Trolling His Selfies on Social Media?

FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has been on the news for all the right reasons. While Barca did lose out on their club legend Lionel Messi, their are signs of optimism among fans because of signings like Eric Garcia and Memphis Depay.

While Depay and Garcia have slotted in right away, the signings wouldn’t have been possible if Pique along with other Barca captains wouldn’t have taken a pay cut. The Spaniard certainly has been lauded by Blaugrana fans all around the world for his incredible gesture.

Gerard Pique reacts to fans trolling his selfies

While Pique has been making headlines for all the right reasons recently, the veteran did have a weird couple of weeks on social media. Chopping off his iconic beard, Pique posted multiple clean shaven selfies on his Instagram account.

While many fans were initially just confused, the trolls started coming in for the 34-year-old. Football fans all across the world were certainly not the biggest fan of the Spaniard’s new look and as it happens on the internet, rampant trolling followed.

But Pique isn’t worried about all the criticisms and the trolling. Speaking on his own twitch stream, the veteran center back said that he was simply bored by people constantly asking him questions about the beard.

The Spaniard later also clarified that the whole sequence of him posting weird selfies was indeed a joke. Pique added, “The whole Instagram selfies thing is a joke. A teammate the other day told me something about engagements, and I decided to try it out. It’s nothing more than that.”

While the Barca defender is out there pulling pranks on fans, he will be crucial in Barca’s new era without Lionel Messi. With a player of Messi’s stature gone, it will veterans like Pique who need to steady the ship.

The Spaniard looks set to do the same. Playing for the first time without the Argentine maestro, Pique opened the scoring for Barcelona. The 34-year-old also had some crucial defensive stops against Real Sociedad ultimately leading Barca to a 4-2 win.

The Blaugrana have a good blend of veterans and young talents. With a young defender like Garcia in the side, Pique will be key in the development of the former City defender. Can Pique form a partnership with Garcia and hold down Barca’s defense this season?
