Lionel Messi has proven that he belongs on the list of the greatest players of all time, perhaps even at the very top. The diminutive Argentinian has won everything there is to win in the domain of club football and the only trophy he is still chasing is the World Cup.
Whether he wins it or not is another question, but fans will still remember his class for years to come. He won most of his trophies with FC Barcelona and is currently playing for French club Paris Saint Germain.

However, things haven’t gone smoothly in France as PSG failed to win any other trophy than the Ligue 1 title. Still, the new season looks promising under a new manager and the club can do pretty well with their loaded squad.
Lionel Messi might return to FC Barcelona
On the other hand, Barca, too, has struggled since losing Lionel Messi. Last season was one of the worst seasons in their history as they dropped down to the Europa League. However, they have mounted a resurgence under Xavi, and club president Joan Laporta wants to improve on that.
Speaking to ESPN, Laporta revealed that he still hopes for Messi to return to the club.
“I would hope that the Messi chapter isn’t over. I think it’s our responsibility to try to … find a moment to fix that chapter, which is still open and hasn’t closed, so it turns out as it should have, and that it has a more beautiful ending,” he added.

The Spaniard didn’t stop there and added that Messi is arguably the club’s greatest player, along with Dutch forward Johan Cruyff. However, he did say that Messi’s exit was inevitable and that the club was above all the players that play for it.
“Messi was everything. To Barca, he’s been possibly its greatest player, the most efficient. To me, he’s only comparable to Johan Cruyff. But it had to happen one day. We had to make a decision as a consequence of what we inherited. The institution is in charge of players, and coaches,” Laporta said.
