Playing in the World Cup is a dream for every single footballer. The joy of representing your nation cannot be topped by anything else. For the footballers of Peru, it was a pipe dream that finally came true in 2018.

Now, Peru can reach the World Cup in Qatar if they win their Play-off game against either Australia or UAE. The winner of that match would face Peru on June 13th and the winner there will book their spot in the World Cup in Qatar.

Going to the competition would be a huge deal, but former Bayern Munich star Paolo Guerrero has more riding on this than just personal glory.

Guerrero is now 38 and hasn’t played a professional match for a long time, suffering from injuries like a torn cruciate ligament and recurrent fibrosis. However, the Peruvian forward is making a full recovery and has endured the past few months away from football to get back to his best again.

In an interview with FIFA, Guerrero spoke about his entire journey and revealed how he was able to cope with all of the hardships that he has had to endure.

I’ve got the strength to go through this process because football is my passion. It’s my life. When I don’t play football, I feel like I’m not really alive. It’s my life, and it’s impossible to give it up,” Guerrero said.

Guerrero and his plans to go to the World Cup

In the interview, Guerrero talked about Peru’s game on June 13th and revealed that he would do anything to play in that. The Peruvian star would love to play for his nation, and no injury would stop him from going there. However, he is still recovering and it’ll be hard for the Peruvian coach to call him up.

I’d kill to represent my national team, you know. I’d even play for Peru with a limp! I’m available. What I want most of all is to play football,” he added.
