Their playing style has rarely been a problem, but the team has played beautiful football under Xavi. This will all be put to the test on Sunday as Barcelona prepare for the second El Clasico in La Liga this season. The team is in great form and can take advantage of an injury-plagued Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
However, none of this was possible just a few months ago.

FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta humiliates Ronald Koeman
Barca’s season got off to a horrible start as the team failed to gel together. At one point, they were lingering in 9th place in La Liga. All of this would’ve been excusable if Koeman’s team was performing well in Europe, but that wasn’t the case.

Barca had lost two group games in the UCL, one of them being a 3-0 loss to Benfica, and was on the verge of being knocked out of the group stage when Koeman was fired. The Dutch manager revealed the story of how it all unfolded and the details sounded pretty harsh.
“I was sitting on the plane with the players right behind me. Laporta sits next to me and says – You’re fired,” Koeman revealed. The Dutchman must have felt humiliated at that point, as he is a former Barcelona legend. However, it wasn’t meant to be for Koeman, but he’ll always remain a legend for the club.

Barca’s prospects in the El Clasico
The club has a decent chance of beating Real Madrid at the Bernabeu this time. Madrid’s main man, Karim Benzema, is a doubt for the match, and the Los Blancos have no decent replacement for him.
Moreover, Rodrygo and Ferland Mendy have also been ruled out because of their injuries. This could mean that David Alaba would play at left-back or even club captain Marcelo. Regardless, a fully fit Barcelona squad is a great match for this Madrid team and will surely put on a tough fight.
