Being the best player in the world is a huge responsibility and very few people get to be that person for a year or so, but being the best players in the world for 15 years? That’s just something that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been able to accomplish.

The two superstars have been at the top of the game for a very long time and their consistency has elevated them far beyond their fellow counterparts. Ronaldo is still playing at a very high level for Manchester United and Messi is playing his trade at Paris Saint Germain, but one former footballer thinks that they made a mistake.

Michel Platini thinks that Ronaldo and Messi made a mistake

Former UEFA president Michel Platini spoke about the situation in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport. He mentioned his own career and how he retired early, at the age of 32. The former Ballon d’Or winner also added that he wanted to be identified with the club he made history with, and Messi and Ronaldo should have done the same thing.

If it was up to him, he would rather move to a financially lucrative country like the USA or China, rather than join big clubs like Manchester United or Paris Saint Germain.

“I respect Ronaldo and Messi, but I retired at 32. I could’ve joined Barcelona or Marseille, but I wanted to be identified with the club that I had made history with. Ronaldo was Real Madrid and Messi was Barcelona. If I were them, I would’ve moved to the USA or China, not to another big club,” Platini said.
