Young players were the theme of the day as Atletico Madrid youngster Joao Felix got the opening goal. He headed in a wonderful cross from Renan Lodi. The ball hit the post and went in, giving United goalkeeper David de Gea no chance to move.

The goal was Felix’s first in this season’s UCL campaign, and the Portuguese forward was brilliant throughout the match. However, the goal was the cherry on top of the cake, and his goal set the tone for the rest of the match. Atletico defended brilliantly in the first half and pressed well to ensure that United never really got going.

Things got heated in the match as several players like Marcos Llorente and Luke Shaw were shown yellow cards for their frustrations. Things were very similar in the second half as United could show no attacking output. United’s German manager Ralf Rangnick made the first changes and brought on Nemanja Matic for Paul Pogba, along with replacing both fullbacks.

The move worked wonderfully as the team started to gel together. Marcus Rashford was substituted for Anthony Elanga too, and it was the Swedish teenager who scored the equalizer in the 80th minute. Elanga slotted the ball in Jan Oblak’s net after a beautifully weighted through ball from Bruno Fernandes.
