Aston Villa had a stellar end to their last season’s campaign where they managed to finished 11th after having a poor start to their season. Their star player Jack Grealish was the main man behind this turnaround. His ability to control the game and dictate the pace from the middle helped bring much stability to the team.

Thanks to his stellar performances over the years for Villa, he was noticed by a lot of top clubs. One such club was Manchester City. City coach Pep Guardiola has never shied away from heaping praise on Jack Grealish’s talent. After months of speculation, Manchester City finally signed Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for a record 100 million pounds.

While it was well known that a talent like Jack Grealish wouldn’t stay longer at a club like Aston Villa, Dean Smith, Aston Villa’s manager in fact believes that their team has gotten stronger after losing their main talisman.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Dean Smith iterated that a team when over-relies on one player reduces its chances to become a better team. “Rather than becoming superstars, they want to become a super team. I feel there was an over-reliance at times on Jack. Everyone could see that” Smith said.

He then went on to acknowledge Jack’s quality but also reiterated that the team had to grow. “He was a top-quality player and he must have been to go for £100million for the British record transfer fee. Our job was then to progress and move forward.”

Lastly, he explained how Jack Grealish’s record signing by Manchester City helped Villa gather funds well and allocate them optimally to solve their issues. “We were always bringing Emi Buendia into the football club, but with Jack’s departure, it enabled us to go and get Leon Bailey and Danny Ings as well. Then with Axel and Ashley Young, I believe makes us into a better team now.”
