Chelsea have enjoyed a spectacular rise to the top ever since Russian-Israeli billionaire Roman Abramovich took over the club in 2003. They have been regulars in the top-flight since the inception of the Premier League but have become consistent challengers at the top end of the table since the Russian’s takeover.

The Blues got their hands on their second UEFA Champions League title in 2021 after beating Premier League champions Manchester City in the final. Kai Havertz’s goal was enough to see off City in a 1-0 victory. Now, 20 years into the century, no other English club has enjoyed more success.

Chelsea have won 18 major trophies in this century and rank first amongst all English sides. Manchester United rank second in this particular list with 16 major honours. The London-based club first won the UCL title in 2012, beating favorites Bayern Munich in the final.

This second European title is a statement from Chelsea and Abramovich about the lofty ambitions of the Blues. Chelsea hav won several league titles along with their European glory. Their 2004-05 side (managed by Jose Mourinho) broke the record for the most points in a season which was eventually broken by City.

Lukaku drove Inter Milan’s triumph in the Serie A last season with his goals and assists. Tuchel will hope that the Belgian will do the same this season, but he has his doubts. If Chelsea wins the league this season, they will have a shout for one of the greatest English sides in recent history.
