Cristiano Ronaldo has been one of the best goalscorers football has ever seen. Starting off as an electrifying, flashy left winger, Ronaldo’s impeccable skill and finishing was at full display in his time with Manchester United.

But over the years, the 5-time Ballon D’or winner has drifted towards a more central role and plays as an out an out striker. Scoring a bucket load of goals, Ronaldo has become a goal scoring machine at each and every level.

Not only has he dominated club football, he has been a force for the Portuguese national team. Scoring 47 goals in his last 46 appearances, Ronaldo entered the international break with a chance to surpass legendary Iranian forward Ali Daei to become the top international goalscorer ever.

Pele congratulates Cristiano Ronaldo for becoming the highest international goalscorer

Ronaldo certainly was up for the task against Ireland. While he miss a penalty, the captain stayed on the field and had some decent looks at goal but none of them sufficed. But CR7’s resilience finally worked as Portugal tied the game in the 89th minute and Ronaldo officially surpassed Daei’s 109 goal record.

Not only that, the 36-year-old that his team ultimately won the game for his side. Scoring another header in injury time, Ronaldo led his team to a crucial win against Ireland. He also extended his goal tally to 111 goals. After his incredible night, the Portuguese posted a celebratory post on his Instagram.

Reactions from all over the world poured in for CR7. One of them was from Brazilian footballing legend Pele himself. Pele who is arguably one of the biggest names in football congratulated Ronaldo as he wrote, “Cristiano, congratulations on breaking another record. You inspire us all with your ability to overcome any challenge.”

This certainly speaks volumes about the immense respect players their is between the best in the world. Pele who was one of a kind in the 60s, has had a good relation with Ronaldo. The Brazilian record goalscorer even congratulated the Portuguese when he surpassed his goal scoring record.

Regardless, Ronaldo hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. Despite playing in his 20th year as a professional, CR7 has stayed at the top of his game and now has taken another challenge as he returns to Manchester United.
