Days are bad in the Theatre of Dreams, as Manchester United are having a torrid time this season. Their form in the Premier League is a huge cause of worry for the fans, and now a new controversy has arisen about their French striker, Anthony Martial.

Martial has been out of favor at Old Trafford and the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood, and even Anthony Elanga are ahead of him in the pecking order. This is a far cry from a few seasons ago when he was in the form of his life and was one of the main players for the Reds.

United appointed German manager Ralf Rangnick on an interim basis till the end of the season, and the move looked like a shrewd one at the time. However, after dropping points again at Aston Villa, fans are becoming impatient. There were also questions about Anthony Martial, who wasn’t even on the bench for the game.

Rangnick answered those questions after the game, and his answer came as a surprise to everyone.

He [Martial] didn’t want to be in the squad. He would have been in the squad normally. He didn’t want to be, and that’s the reason why he wasn’t with us,” the manager revealed.

Martial did not waste any time in responding to his manager and uploaded a story on Instagram, refuting what Ralf Rangnick said.

I will never refuse to play a match for Man United. I’ve been here for 7 years and I never disrespected and will never disrespect the club and the fans,” Martial wrote.
