Lionel Messi shocked the world when he left Barcelona to join Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain. While the reasons for his departure were not sporting, it was certainly an unbelievable thought for soccer fans to see Messi play for any club not named Barcelona.

Now that people are coming to terms with the shock transfer, it is hard to ignore that the former Barcelona captain is not performing to his usual standards. So far, the Argentinian hasn’t found the back of the net for the club in Ligue 1. In a recent interview with France Football, Messi opened up on his struggles and his transfer to PSG.

The Ligue 1 ‘teams seem more powerful’ to Messi

Lionel Messi recently sat down for an interview with France Football. There, he spoke about a variety of topics, including Ligue 1 and his decision to join PSG. The former Barcelona captain observed that the Ligue 1 is much more physical than the Spanish League.

Moreover, he even said that the teams in Ligue 1 play with very high intensity, thus leaving less space. This is something that is troubling players, like Messi, who thrive in space.

“Ligue 1 is a championship which is much more physical than La Liga,” observed La Pulga. “Here, the teams seem more powerful to me and the matches are hotly contested, with few spaces.” said the new PSG talisman.

Revealing further, Lionel Messi shared how easy it was for him to join the Paris-based side. The Argentinian playmaker obviously had many suitors, but PSG’s ambition and quality won him over. He further revealed that all these factors helped him quickly close the agreement with PSG.

“I thank them because I am very happy today. I received other offers, but we came to an agreement with PSG quite quickly. I was obviously won over by the project. The players it has, the quality of the group, all these elements made it easier to find an agreement.”

While Messi may not have had the best start to his PSG career, we saw glimpses of the legend when he scored a beautiful goal against Manchester City. Therefore, fans can expect Messi to live up to his standards and lighten up Ligue 1 with his incredible skills.
