FC Barcelona’s financial woes haven’t been hidden from anyone, with the departure of their club captain and superstar Lionel Messi underlining the monetary deprecation of the club. Messi wasn’t the only problem, as the club was struggling to register their other players like Memphis Depay too. However, Gerard Pique came to the rescue.

They signed the Dutch forward on a free transfer this season in a bid to help Messi. Now that the Argentinian has left the club, it’s up to Depay to shoulder some of the goal-scoring burdens. FC Barcelona put out a statement on their official website confirming that they were able to sign Memphis Depay and their other signings.

FC Barcelona is able to register MemphisEric Garcia and Rey Manaj to play in the Spanish Liga de Futbol Profesional. This has been made possible thanks to an agreement with Gerard Piqué whereby the Barça second captain’s salary has been substantially reduced,” the spokesperson, Miguel Ruiz, said.

As a result, they have now registered all of their first-team members in La Liga. They have everyone available ahead of their opening match against Real Sociedad, and their manager Ronald Koeman will appreciate Pique’s gesture.

The club could not sign Lionel Messi because of the La Liga regulations this season. Messi was also taking a significant wage cut of about 50%, but ultimately, it wasn’t enough. However, he was earning around 70 million euros every year, which put a lot of strain on Barcelona’s finances.
