PSG Sees Massive Squad Value Hike After Lionel Messi Signing

Paris Saint Germain has had one of the best transfer windows of all time, which was highlighted by the free transfer of Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi. La Liga regulations didn’t allow FC Barcelona to register Messi, and hence he had to leave the club after 21 years of service.
However, Messi wasn’t the only player they signed. The French club also acquired Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos on a free transfer this season. They also signed AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer.

The only player they paid money for was Moroccan right-back, Achraf Hakimi. PSG signed Hakimi from Inter Milan for 60 million euros. All these moves have elevated the squad’s overall value, and now the club is only behind Premier League champions Manchester City.
Still, the gap between City and PSG is only 12 million euros. The transfer window has not ended yet, and anything can happen. However, Manchester City is planning a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, which will see their market value increase.
Meanwhile, PSG’s signing spree helped them leapfrog Chelsea, Liverpool, and Real Madrid this season. It’ll be interesting to see what they can do with this squad next season. They aim to win the UEFA Champions League this season. If they fail to do so, it will raise a lot of questions about their manager, Mauricio Pochettino’s ability to win trophies.

The amount of money Lionel Messi will earn at PSG.
PSG has no reservations in paying their players well as the signing of Wijnaldum was largely dependent on their financial might. They have taken a similar approach with Messi, and the Argentinian signed a bumper deal to make around €35 million net per year. In addition to this, he will also receive a €25m signing-on bonus.
