Russia Set to Make an Outrageous Claim on Euro 2028 Tournament Amidst Ukraine Crisis

The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has taken hold over the world as people hope for the safety of everyone involved. However, the situation is bad right now, and everyone is trying to de-escalate it and ensure that more damage is not done.

The effects of the same are also being seen worldwide. Russia’s athletes have faced several restrictions and bans from competitions. In fact, even the Russian football team has been banned from competing in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, scheduled for later this year.

As a result, they have also been disallowed from participating in the ongoing playoffs for Qualifying for the World Cup, a move the Russian Football Union is trying to challenge. Even Russian clubs have been disqualified from competing in any and all UEFA competitions.

Russia wants to host the Euros in 2028 or 2032

This hasn’t deterred the RFU and they keep challenging UEFA’s and FIFA’s decisions. In a move that shocked several football fans, the RFU revealed that they want to host the Euros in either 2028 or 2032.

They will bid against the joint effort of the UK and Ireland and try to host the competition in Russia. They did host the World Cup in 2018, but this bid has received some backlash from football fans.

Moreover, they aren’t the only ones in the race, as the Turkish Football Federation will bid to host the tournament in 2028. It’ll be interesting to see who will end up hosting the tournament, but for now, it seems unlikely that it would be Russia.

The Russian football team won’t be playing in the World Cup qualifiers

The Russian football team was supposed to play against Poland on March 24th for their World Cup qualifier tie, but their suspension has been upheld. The RFU tried to challenge the suspension but to no avail.

“The challenged decision remains in force and all Russian teams and clubs continue to be suspended from participation in Fifa competitions,” the CAS statement revealed.
