Moving to a new club can be a difficult situation for any footballer. However, no one expected it to happen to one of the greatest players of all time, Lionel Messi, but that is exactly what is happening with the Argentinian forward right now.

He recently left his boyhood club, FC Barcelona, after spending 20 years with them in Spain and moved to French club, Paris Saint Germain. The move was highly controversial as Messi wanted to stay at Barca but the Spanish club wasn’t able to register him because of La Liga regulations.

Messi and his shooting accuracy this season

Lionel Messi won his seventh Ballon d’Or this season for his performances for FC Barcelona and Argentina in the Copa America. While Barca was only able to win the Copa Del Ray, Messi single-handedly kept them in the UEFA Champions League and helped them finish fourth in the league.

That was enough for him to win the award, but he has looked like a shadow of himself since joining PSG. Messi has only managed to score one league goal in 12 games for the club in Ligue 1 and has struggled to get going. The numbers prove how bad his season with PSG has been, domestically.

The Argentinian forward has the second-worst shot conversation rate among all players in the top-five leagues. He has scored just one goal in Ligue 1 from his 44 shots. Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo is the only player who is above him on this list. Cancelo has scored one goal from 46 shots, very close to Messi’s tally.

Lionel Messi and his return to Paris Saint Germain

Another reason for his low output can be the fact that Messi got diagnosed with COVID-19 and only just returned to play for the club.

He featured for the first time in over a month for PSG against Stade de Reims and played 26 minutes for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in their 4-0 win. It’ll be interesting to see if he can recapture his form and help PSG win it all.
