Tottenham Hotspur is currently undergoing a process of rebuilding after years of competing at the top under former manager Mauricio Pochettino. They appointed Jose Mourinho to steady the ship, but the move didn’t work out and now the onus is on serial winner Antonio Conte, to do something good with the club.

He has started relatively well as Tottenham are now sitting in sixth place in the league with two games in hand over fourth-place Arsenal, who are just two points away. However, yesterday was a setback for his team as Spurs lost to Chelsea in the first leg of the semi-finals of the EFL Cup by a score of 2-0.

Antonio Conte speaks after the defeat against Chelsea

Tottenham did lose the match, looking far from their best. Spurs’ defense looked shambolic in front of a Chelsea attack led by Kai Havertz and Romelu Lukaku, two players who have struggled to find form under Thomas Tuchel.

Antonio Conte talked about his team after the match and asked the fans to have patience. He was brutally honest in his assessment and added that Tottenham Hotspur’s level has dropped a lot in the past few years.

Now you have to rebuild, to rebuild you need to have patience, you need to have more time,” Conte said.

I also want to be very clear because if we think that with the transfer window in January we solve all situations, I’m telling you a lie, not the truth. There is a lot to do, a lot of jobs to do,” he concluded.
