Notably, the 26-year-old robber, Abderaham Muse, pled guilty to his crimes, after a DNA test from a cap that fell down during the scuffle, led police to his arrest. He was sentenced to five years in prison, along with his accomplice. Even though Gabriel was suffering from a knee injury when this incident occurred, his sheer act of bravery then is winning fans over the internet now.

Moreover, Chris Wheatley covered the story and reported on it. In the video, one can see the robbers following Gabriel into his garage and demanding his car keys, phone, and wallet. The Brazilian defender complied at first, choosing not to risk getting hurt whatsoever. However, when the robbers tried to hit Gabriel, a scuffle broke out and Gabriel let loose.

Gabriel hit Muse in the face and wrestled his bat away from him, causing the robbers to flee the scene. Interestingly, former Arsenal players Sead Kolasinac and Mesut Ozil were also the targets of an attempted robbery like that.

The judge on the case shares her views

The judge presiding on the case, Judge Anupama Thompson, gave the robbers a deservingly long sentence and shared her thoughts about their actions.

While you didn’t specifically target the victim on account of him being a well-known footballer, there was a realisation this person was wealthy and worthy of robbing. You saw a nice car and a nice house and thought it was rich pickings. Fortunately, thanks to the brave actions of the people you targeted, no further damage was done,” Judge Thompson said in court.

While Gabriel continues to be hailed for his bravery, this is a reminder for all to stay vigilant and cautious at all times. Although the Arsenal man defended himself well, any step taken when in dangerous situations like these must be calculated, reasonable, and thought over multiple times.
