Cristiano Ronaldo had a mildly successful time in Italy with Juventus FC. While the Portuguese forward won two Serie A titles and a few domestic trophies, his dream of bringing the UEFA Champions League trophy to Turin failed miserably.

Ronaldo joined the club in 2018 after winning the UCL with Real Madrid. The entire Italian media was fixated on only one thing during the entire transfer saga, and it was whether Ronaldo was the last cog in the wheel for Juventus to win the UCL.

After a few years of turmoil, Andrea Pirlo had found his way to being the Juventus manager and was looking to win the UCL trophy for the club.

Cristiano Ronaldo cries after losing against Porto in the UCL

Under Pirlo, the Juventus midfield looked shockingly woeful, and their UEFA Champions League campaign ended in the Round of-16. The Italian club was knocked out on the basis of away goals against Porto, as the Portuguese club snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

Ronaldo didn’t take the loss very well and was seen crying in the new ‘All or Nothing: Juventus’ documentary after the match was over. He had previously been in an altercation with teammate Juan Cuadrado at half-time in the match.

Notably, that was the third time that Ronaldo didn’t reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, which was a sharp low from winning it three times in a row during the years before. That defeat was ominous for both Ronaldo and Pirlo as both of them left Juventus at the end of the season.

The second season was worse as Juventus were knocked out by Lyon. Maurizio Sarri lost his position as the manager of the club, and Juventus legend Andrea Pirlo was appointed on the same day. It was during his time at the club that Juventus fell further down the rope.
