Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United will resume their 2021/2022 Champions League campaign this week. The Red Devils will travel to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium to take on Atletico Madrid.

The Portuguese superstar has broken several records throughout his career, making him the legend he is today. But even the best of the best have experienced some embarrassing moments on the pitch in their lifetime, and Cristiano is no exception. Having the time of his life, the maestro had an accidental fall in training recently.

If nothing, this video proved Cristiano Ronaldo is indeed human. However, Manchester United will need him to don his superhero persona in their Round of 16 tie against Diego Simeone‘s men.

Several CR7 fans consider Atletico Madrid as Ronaldo’s favorite opponent, especially in the UEFA Champions League. And there is a reason for that. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has proved to be the ultimate hurdle in Simeone and Atletico’s path to European glory in the past.

In 2014, Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid 4-1 at Europe’s grandest stage. Real Madrid earned a dramatic win over their arch-rivals in the finals. And CR7 netted the fourth goal for Madrid and sealed the victory for the men in white.

This is not the only example. In 2018, during his time at Juventus, the Portuguese international produced one of his best performances to knock out Diego Simeone’s men once again.

Atletico Madrid had a two-goal lead going into the second leg in Turin. But Ronaldo netted a hat-trick in the second leg to send Juve through to the next round.

Four years later, after that shocking defeat, CR7 will once again encounter his familiar foes. It will be interesting to see if the Manchester United forward is able to maintain his impressive record against Atletico Madrid.
