Lionel Messi hasn’t had the ideal start to his Paris Saint Germain career. To add to the woes, the Argentinian has been ruled out of PSG’s trip to Metz after he got a knock on his left knee. Moreover, he might also miss PSG’s match against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.

PSG’s manager Mauricio Pochettino was recently in the news after he substituted Messi in PSG’s latest win against Lyon. Messi had a good performance, but the score was still 1-1 when he was on the pitch. Lyon had opened the scoring after Lucas Paqueta scored in the beginning stages of the second half.

However, Neymar Jr. equalised for the Parisian club, and then PSG finally got the win in the 93rd minute after Mauro Icardi scored in the end. His Argentinian partner Angel Di Maria provided the assist as Poch was proven right in the end.

Two days later, with the news of Messi’s injury coming out, it seems natural that Poch didn’t want to take a risk with him. However, it hasn’t really worked out for PSG’s front three.

Paris Saint Germain’s scary front three

Lionel Messi is the best player in the world, and along with Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappe, is a part of the scariest front three in world football. The three forwards are three of the best players in the world and have the numbers to prove it.

However, in the two matches that Messi has played in, one was played without Neymar Jr., and the other one was a disaster. The three forwards couldn’t gel well as Neymar has taken the role Messi played at FC Barcelona. While the two of them have played together before, this will take some time to get used to for all three of them.

Lionel Messi and his position at PSG

Pochettino has tried to play Messi in two different positions. Messi has played centrally (behind Kylian Mbappe) and on the wing for PSG. However, there wasn’t a lot of difference as he created chances from both positions.

It’s yet to be seen where he’ll end up in this attack, but one thing’s for sure, the kind of player that Messi is, he’ll end up breaking a few more records at the club.
