The USMNT is preparing for the next stage of their future as the World Cup qualifiers are here. They are in a prime position to qualify from their group, but things can still go wrong. One of them has already happened as USMNT star Sergino Dest was not selected for the latest squad.

The FC Barcelona star injured his hamstring during the club’s Europa League match against Galatasaray. This injury couldn’t have come at a worse time as the USMNT coach, Gregg Berhalter, was set to name his squad just hours after Barca’s game.

In the end, Dest was not selected and the right-back will miss another chance to seal his spot in his country’s starting eleven.

Other injury concerns for the USMNT

However, Dest isn’t the only one who has to sit out the qualifiers for the USMNT. Juventus star, Weston McKennie, suffered a long-term injury which will see him miss the rest of the season. Moreover, New England Revolution goalkeeper, Matt Turner, is also injured, which could mean more minutes for Manchester City star, Zack Steffen.

The team will miss McKennie’s dynamic play in the midfield, as the Juventus star had been in outstanding form for club and country before getting injured. The same cannot be said for Sergino Dest though, as he has failed to establish himself in the Barca squad after spending over a year and a half at the club.

This injury will rule him out for a further three weeks, and he would miss the El Clasico on Sunday.

Sergino Dest and his performances for FC Barcelona

The former Ajax star almost found his way out the door at Barca in the winter transfer window. However, he wanted to prove his merit to new manager, Xavi, and things were working out for the youngster.

He was putting in a few good performances every time he played, and the fact that FC Bayern Munich is interested in him is a testament to his quality. However, he’ll need to do it all over again after he comes back from injury, and it’ll be interesting to see if he’ll still have his place in the squad.
