Since joining Manchester United in 2011 for $24.1 million, a British record fee for a goalkeeper at that time, David de Gea has come a long way in his career. Having already shared a dressing room with Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently clinched his first piece of silverware in the gulf. The 5x Ballon d’or winner could see a reunion with the Spaniard in the near future.

De Gea came to Old Trafford as an inexperienced 20-year-old from Atletico Madrid and leaves as the club’s longest-serving shot-stopper with 545 caps and a record 190 clean sheets. An inability to play with the ball at his feet and a high wage bill meant that Manchester United and their manager Erik Ten Hag saw him as surplus to requirements. The iconic shot-stopper still has many years at a top level still to go and maybe he can share them with one of the GOATs.

De Gea is yet to finalize his new club since leaving United as a free agent earlier this summer. Although he was offered a contract on reduced terms by the Red Devils, no final resolution could be reached between the player and the club. And so, the 32-year-old is considering his options elsewhere. In a turn of events, Real Madrid CF confirmed in an official statement that Thibaut Courtois has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury that will keep him out of action for the majority of the season. This led to suggestions that Los Blancos could move for David de Gea.

The deal, however, could not materialise with Madrid singing Kepa from Chelsea. With Real out of contention, Al Nassr looks like the probable destination for the Spaniard, looking at his wage demands.

According to a report in Marca, David de Gea is expected to join Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr this summer. This would reunite him with his former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who played with the Spanish goalkeeper for a tenure of 15 months at Old Trafford before leaving for Al Nassr last November.

Amidst Al Nassr’s meteoric rise to prominence in Saudi, fueled by the addition of Cristiano Ronaldo to the squad and their recent triumph in the Arab Club Champions Cup, the club has been attracting some top international talents seeking a fresh challenge. Just hours after Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated his inaugural trophy win with Al Nassr, the club is reportedly eyeing David de Gea to reinforce their squad.

A tempting offer might be on the charts for De Gea

It’s understood that none of the top European clubs have been in talks with De Gea over the possibility of signing him, with his high wage demands and declining form on the pitch shaping into obstacles. According to the Sun, Al Nassr are reportedly ready to tempt De Gea with a lucrative offer of £250,000 per week.

It remains to be seen if De Gea still wants to fight at the top level in Europe or if he is keen to move to Saudi and join his former teammate Ronaldo.

The Saudi Arabian transfer window is open till 20th September, which is over two weeks longer than that of the major European leagues. It will provide some more time for the club and De Gea to consider their options and finalize their plans. Should this tantalizing deal materialize, it could signal a new era for Al Nassr and would surely bolster their squad for the upcoming campaign.
