French sensation Antoine Griezmann is one of the biggest names in international soccer. Along with winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France, he is also the all-time leading goal scorer for Atlético de Madrid. Recognized for his on-field IQ, Griezmann’s journey to the very top wasn’t easy. He was initially rejected by many teams for his size. But with support from his parents, Alain Griezmann and Isabelle Lopes, the French star went on to become one of the best-recognized faces in soccer globally.
Who is Antoine Griezmann’s Father, Alain Griezmann?
Griezmann’s father, Alain Griezmann, worked for a long time in local government in their hometown of Mcon, France. Alain had a passion for soccer early in life and played for fun. Because he knew the game well, he noticed Antoine’s talent with the ball. He started taking Antoine to practice at their local soccer club, UF Mconnais, when he was just six years old.

When professional teams in France told Antoine he was “too small” to be a pro, Alain didn’t listen. He encouraged his son to keep working hard and stay focused. After a Spanish scout’s offer came in 2005 for Griezmann, who was 13 at the time, Alain made the hard choice to let his son move away to follow his dream.
Alain is still his son’s biggest fan and is often seen hugging him on the field after big championship wins.
According to a December, 2019 Facebook post by Viva Barca, Griezmann’s father was elated to see his son play for Barcelona. He was quoted as saying, “My father is very proud to see his son at FC Barcelona. I want my name to be remembered in the history of this club.”
Who is Antoine Griezmann’s Mother, Isabelle Lopes?
Isabelle Lopes is Antoine’s mother. She worked at a hospital, helping to manage the cleaning staff. Her busy job required patience, a value she imparted to Antoine, clear from his playstyle.
Isabelle’s family is originally from Portugal. Growing up with Portuguese culture, Antoine found Spain’s culture familiar when he moved. Isabelle’s father, Amaro Lopes, was himself an established soccer player, having played in Portugal as a central defender for FC Paços de Ferreira. As Griezmann spent his summer holidays there, he was influenced both in soccer and Spanish culture.
Does Antoine Griezmann Have Siblings?
Griezmann grew up with an older sister, Maud, and a younger brother, Théo. The three of them remain close to this day.
Maud is the founder of a multi-sport representation company, By and For Sport Management, built around Griezmann’s star power. The firm focuses on “high-potential talents in France and Spain”, per their official website.
His brother Théo is the founder and creative director of The GZ Brand.

What is Antoine Griezmann’s Parents’ Ethnicity And Nationality?
Both of Antoine’s parents are French citizens. They raised their family in France and have lived there most of their lives. However, their family roots come from different parts of Europe. His dad, Alain, has German ancestors, which is why their last name sounds a bit unique. His mom, Isabelle, is of Portuguese descent. This mix of French, German, and Portuguese roots gave Antoine a very diverse background.
Inside Antoine Griezmann’s Relationship with His Parents
Antoine is very close to his mom and dad. He talks about them with a lot of love and says he wouldn’t be a champion without them. They helped him stay focused, per his speech during his exit from Atlético Madrid.
Alain and Isabelle still go to as many of his games as they can. They travel to see him play for his club team and were in the stands when he won the World Cup for France.
Because of Alain and Isabelle’s support, Griezmann became one of the best players in the world. As he starts his next big move to play for Orlando City in 2026, his family is still his biggest support system.
