Bayern Munich star Harry Kane, who has long been a fan of the New England Patriots, just revealed his desire to play his current sport and in the NFL as a specialist placekicker simultaneously.

“Maybe if I am in the MLS in the future or somewhere like that it might be a thing where you could connect the two, with the seasons,” Kane said, according to The Athletic. “But it is in the back of my mind because right now, I am feeling that I want to play as long as I can here.”
Kane, who has long been into other sports as well, apart from soccer, has been thinking of switching to golf or American Football, and considering his skill set, he thinks the NFL would be a suitable fit, although no offers from an NFL team have come yet. However, he emphasized the idea remains theoretical and dependent on future circumstances.
“I take penalties and it is a very similar pressure and technique,” Kane said. “If I did that, in terms of training, I would be closer to that more than to any other sport. But as I know, with all elite sports, when you watch it on TV, people make it look easy, and you think it is possible, but that is not always the case. If I was to do it, it is something I would take seriously. I would take six months to a year to try and practice before.”
If he succeeds in making this happen, he wouldn’t be the first soccer player to do so: Brandon Aubrey of the Dallas Cowboys, also considered the NFL’s best kicker, switched from playing soccer in the MLS with Toronto FC to becoming an NFL star. Former England soccer player Clive Allen also tried the switch, going to the London Monarchs in NFL Europe during the 1997 season.
Kane has long thought of playing in the NFL, being an admirer of legend Tom Brady, and was asked about his NFL interest after a 2-1 victory over Celtic at Glasgow in the first leg of their Champions League playoff game. Kane reiterated that playing in the NFL “is something in the back of my mind.” But he also cleared his intention of focusing on soccer for now, and kept the NFL as something he would “like to explore in the future date.”
Kane has still gone with the same notion, and with still being at the top of his soccer career, in contention for the Ballon d’Or after a 73-goal season, says that his plan depends on what happens in his career “over the next five or six years,” but for now he is loving his time in Germany, also being “fairly close” to signing a new contract with the team.
Kane has been one of the most prolific goal scorers in the past decade, and it looks like he could reap the rewards for it this year, making him the first Ballon d’Or winner from England since Michael Owen in 2001.
“From my point of view, it would be unbelievable to win it,” he said. “I’d be extremely proud to win it. I think I’m definitely in the running to win it, without a doubt, so time will tell, the voters will vote for who they want.”
But he doesn’t necessarily think winning the award is the only thing that could justify his performances, as what makes him more proud is when his current or ex-teammates talk about him and compliment him.
For now, Kane, 33, is focusing on playing soccer, but this wild plan of his could be possible in the future.
