Sofia Kenin Reveals Turning Point of Her Career

Sofia Kenin indicated a change of guard after defeating the mainstays to win her maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open 2020 champion. However, it was not the most defining moment of her career. The American star divulged which match was the turning point of her career.

Kenin has been excessively active on social media since the tennis season is indefinitely suspended due to the outbreak of coronavirus around the world. Recently, she also did an Instagram question and answer round to engage with her fans. Sofia answered quite a few questions for her fans.

Facing Maria Sharapova helped Sofia Kenin to step up

Kenin was also asked, “what match your career do you think was your turning point?” Kenin answered the question with her photo with former World No.1 Maria Sharapova at the US Open 2017.

She cogitated on how facing Sharapova in the third round of the 2017 US Open was a crucial point in her career. The 21-year-old Kenin was defeated in straight sets by Sharapova at the Flushing Meadows.

However, Kenin learned many important things despite her loss. That match certainly helped her understand that she really wanted to pursue a career in tennis.

Earlier, Kenin, who has deep-rooted connections with Russia, revealed that she idolizes Sharapova.  She also looked up to her while growing up as a kid. It will be interesting to see if Kenin follows the footsteps of Sharapova and try to surpass her.

Tennis has been in lockdown since the first week of March and will not return until at least July 13 following the cancellation of the Wimbledon Championships due to the public crisis.
